AMD Bets Open Ethernet Against Nvidia and Cisco's Walled AI Fabric
AMD's new Helios rack bets on open interconnect standards just as Nvidia turns its own into a licensing tollbooth, and a BGP hijack shows how routing failures cascade straight into certificate trust. We also cover a stolen AI agent API key, a hint of dark matter from deep underground, and why your chat app might secretly be running LibreOffice.
Welcome to Amaze Networks for Wednesday, September second. AMD just picked a very public fight with Nvidia and Cisco over how the next generation of AI racks gets wired together, and it's the kind of fight that actually matters.
Okay, walk me through it, because last week we covered Cisco and Nvidia's answer to AI fabric design, and it sounded pretty locked down.
It was. Cisco and Nvidia's Secure AI Factory splits the rack into two fabrics — Cisco's own Silicon One handles the front end, management and storage traffic, and Nvidia's Spectrum-X handles the back end, GPU to GPU traffic. Both pieces are proprietary, and you're buying into both vendors to get the whole thing.
New episodes, every weekday.
